Monestra Terms of Use

Terms of Use

Last updated: 31 August 2026

These terms govern your use of the Monestra application ("Monestra", "the app"). By downloading or using Monestra you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use the app.

Monestra is published by Aneri Parikh, a sole proprietor based in India ("we", "us", "the developer").

These terms replace Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement.

1. What Monestra is

Monestra is a personal record-keeping tool. It stores information you enter about your own financial and personal life, performs arithmetic on it, and presents the results.

Monestra is not a financial service. It does not, and cannot:

We are not a bank, broker, investment adviser, research analyst, insurance intermediary, or financial institution of any kind, and we are not registered as any of those with any regulator. See our Financial Disclaimer, which forms part of these terms.

2. Your licence

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use Monestra on devices you own or control, in accordance with the App Store Terms of Service and these terms.

You may not:

All rights not expressly granted are reserved. Monestra, its design, its name and its logo remain our property or that of our licensors.

3. Purchase, licence verification and refunds

Monestra is sold as a one-time purchase through the App Store. Apple is the seller of record. Payment, taxes, and refunds are handled by Apple under Apple's own terms, and refund requests must be made to Apple — we can neither grant nor refuse them.

On macOS, Monestra verifies that its App Store receipt was issued to the Mac it is running on. This check runs entirely on your device and sends nothing. Its purpose is to prevent a copy of the app being passed between people who have not bought it.

We have designed this to fail gently, and you should know how it behaves:

If you have bought Monestra and cannot use it, contact support@monestra.app and we will help.

4. Your data is your responsibility

Monestra stores your data on your device, and syncs it between the Apple devices signed into your iCloud account through Apple's CloudKit service, in the private database belonging to that account. We hold no copy and cannot recover anything. Your use of iCloud is governed by your agreement with Apple, and the availability, reliability and retention of that service are Apple's, not ours.

You are responsible for keeping backups. Monestra provides backup and export tools; please use them. In particular:

Exported backups are encrypted with a passphrase you choose. We cannot recover that passphrase, and without it the backup cannot be decrypted by anyone, including us. If you lose it, that backup is permanently unreadable.

iCloud sync is a convenience, not a backup. It mirrors what you do — including deletions — so a record you delete on one device disappears from the others. It also does nothing for you if you are not signed into iCloud, or have switched Monestra off in your iCloud settings.

Losing every device that holds your data, deleting the app where it is not synced, or losing your backup passphrase will result in permanent loss of the data concerned. This is an inherent consequence of the app holding your data privately rather than on our servers, and it is a trade-off you accept by using Monestra.

5. Accuracy

Monestra calculates from what you enter. It cannot verify your figures, and it has no connection to any institution that could. Values shown — including net worth, projections, depreciation, and vesting values — are arithmetic on your own inputs and are only as accurate as those inputs.

Where market data is enabled, prices and exchange rates are supplied by third parties as daily, end-of-day figures. They may be delayed, incomplete, or wrong. Monestra does not provide real-time market data and must not be relied on as though it did.

6. The AI assistant

Monestra's assistant runs on your device using Apple's on-device models. It is provided as a beta feature, is grounded in figures the app has already calculated, and is instructed not to invent numbers. It can nevertheless be wrong, incomplete, or misleading.

Verify anything important against the underlying records in the app before acting on it. The assistant does not provide financial advice, and its output is not a recommendation.

7. Availability and changes

We may update, change, or discontinue Monestra or any of its features. Features that depend on third parties — including market data — may change or cease to be available for reasons outside our control.

We will not remove a feature in a way that makes your existing data inaccessible without providing a means to export it.

8. Disclaimer of warranties

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Monestra is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement.

We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of defects, or that its calculations or any third-party data will be accurate or complete.

9. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law:

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited. If you are a consumer, you have statutory rights that these terms do not affect, and nothing here limits them.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions or limitations, in which case the above apply to the fullest extent permitted there.

10. Third-party services

Where you enable market data, the relevant third-party service's own terms and privacy policy apply to that service's handling of the request. Where you supply your own API key, your agreement is with that provider. We are not responsible for third-party services, their data, or their availability.

See Third-Party Notices.

11. Apple

You acknowledge that:

12. Termination

This licence ends if you breach these terms, and ends automatically if you delete the app. On termination you must stop using Monestra. Your data stays on your device and is unaffected by the licence ending; it is removed when you delete the app.

13. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of India, and the courts at Hyderabad, India have exclusive jurisdiction — except that if you are a consumer resident elsewhere, you retain the benefit of any mandatory consumer protections and any right to bring proceedings in the courts of your country of residence, where the law of that country gives you that right.

14. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. Material changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date and in the app's release notes. Continuing to use Monestra after a change means you accept the revised terms. The current version is always at https://monestra.app/terms and in the app at Settings ▸ About ▸ Legal.
