Compensation

RSUs, options, ESPP and cash pay in one place — vesting schedules, an ESPP discount projection, and a single total-compensation figure.

Compensation is equity-first. It exists because the part of pay that is hardest to see is the part that has not vested yet.

What it models#

  • RSUs — restricted stock units, vesting on a schedule.
  • Options — ISOs and NSOs, with a strike price, so Monestra can tell you when a grant is underwater.
  • ESPP — with the discount projected.
  • Cash pay — base and bonus, so total compensation is a real total.

Vesting schedules#

You record the parameters — grant date, cliff, total units, frequency — and Monestra generates the schedule rather than making you type each tranche.

Vesting tranches appear on Radar individually, because they are genuinely irregular: a one-year cliff followed by quarterly vesting is not a repeating pattern that can be projected from a single line. These dates are recorded, so they are drawn solid.

Valuation#

Grants in a listed company can be valued daily through Market data, if you have turned it on and supplied a key. Private and pre-IPO companies take a manual price — there is no source to fetch, and Monestra will not invent one.

Observations#

Concentration in employer stock, grants that are underwater, and vesting coming up. All descriptive. Monestra has no view on whether you should hold or sell, and will not express one.

Total compensation#

One figure: base, plus bonus, plus annualised equity. It is the number most tools never give you, and it is the reason the module exists.

Net worth#

Compensation contributes nothing to net worth. Vested shares you still hold belong in Investments, where they are counted once. Unvested equity is not yours yet.

No flow where no money moves#

An ESPP purchase date and a holding-period mark are milestones, not payments. Radar does not show a flow for either, because no cash actually moves.

This manual describes what Monestra does with the records you enter. It is not financial advice, and nothing in it is a recommendation to buy, sell, hold, or arrange anything.
