Subscriptions

Recurring costs, normalised to a comparable monthly figure — with a payment ledger that books a late charge to the month it belongs to.

Subscriptions tracks what renews: streaming, software, memberships, utilities on a plan, anything billed on a cycle.

Normalised spend#

Subscriptions bill on different cycles — monthly, quarterly, annual — so a raw total is meaningless. Monestra normalises everything to a comparable monthly figure, which is what the summary and the Dashboard tile both show. An annual plan at ₹4,800 contributes ₹400 a month to that figure.

The renewal date is what makes a subscription useful to the rest of the app: it puts the charge on Radar and, once it has passed, into the Checklist.

A category can be suggested on-device from the name — no lookup, no network.

The payment ledger#

Subscriptions is one of the few modules that records what actually happened, not just what is due. Each payment is keyed to the renewal it settles.

This sounds like a detail and is not. Pay August's bill on 3 September and a naive ledger books it to September — August looks unpaid forever and September looks doubly expensive. Keying the payment to the renewal it settles puts the charge in August, where it belongs, regardless of when you got round to recording it.

The Checklist's Confirm action writes one of these.

Renewal dates drift#

A subscription's next renewal date is computed — it rolls forward from the last one. So Radar draws subscription flows dotted: recompute tomorrow and the date could move.

When a renewal date has genuinely passed, the Checklist offers Confirm renewal, which writes the new date and turns the line solid.

Reminders#

Switch on renewal reminders per event type in Notifications, with your own lead time and delivery hour. Amounts are kept off the lock screen unless you opt in.

This manual describes what Monestra does with the records you enter. It is not financial advice, and nothing in it is a recommendation to buy, sell, hold, or arrange anything.
