Glossary

Terms Monestra uses in a specific way, and what each one means here.

Arrears — Occurrences of a commitment from earlier months that are still unfinished. The Checklist folds them inside one card, each keeping its own action.

Certainty — Whether a Radar flow is confirmed or projected. Everything past a commitment's first occurrence is projected.

Commitment — A recurring obligation, as distinct from one occurrence of it. The Checklist shows one card per commitment.

Composed (of net worth) — Recalculated from its parts every time it is needed, never stored. This is what lets a correction to the past correct every total that reads it.

Derived series — A value curve evaluated on demand from a formula, such as a depreciating asset. Nothing is stored.

Direction — Whether money is coming in or going out. Radar states it; a Dashboard event does not.

Dismissal — A per-month note that a Checklist row does not apply. The only data the Checklist stores. Never a completion.

Egress ledger — The log in Settings ▸ Privacy & Security ▸ Network activity of every network request the app has made: host and time, never the full URL.

Financial year — Your year boundary, set once in Settings ▸ General and read by everything that says "this year".

Fold — Grouping several occurrences of one commitment into a single card.

Lead time — How many days before an event a reminder arrives.

Manual point — A value you typed, as opposed to one the app observed. Manual outranks imported, which outranks observed, and a higher rank is never overwritten by a lower one.

Masking — Replacing amounts with •••• on screen. Access control, not encryption.

Module — A self-contained area of the app. Fourteen exist; all but the Dashboard can be hidden.

Module-owned series — History that a module already keeps as a dated ledger, such as a goal's contributions.

Normalised spend — A recurring cost expressed as a comparable monthly figure, so annual and monthly plans can be added together.

Observation — A statement of fact about your data. Never a recommendation.

Occurrence — One dated instance of a commitment. August's salary is an occurrence of a monthly salary.

Pressure point — A day on Radar carrying an unusually large net movement. Ranked by size, not by date.

Projected anchor — A first date the app computed rather than read from a record. Drawn dotted on Radar.

Recipe — What a report contains and at what depth. Monestra saves the recipe and never the generated PDF.

Running net — The cumulative net of known flows on Radar's horizon chart. Not a balance forecast, and labelled as such.

Snapshot — A sealed backup kept inside the app, as opposed to an exported .monestrabackup file.

Stale — A record whose value has not been touched for long enough to be unreliable: 30 days for a bank balance or a manually-priced holding. Not configurable.

Stored series — History Monestra keeps as points, for values with nothing behind them, such as a bank balance.
